Dennis and Neal of Stickmobility on The Living.Fit Show with Marcus and Aaron

Dennis Dunphy Bio:

Dennis’s first endeavor as a fitness professional began in 1999 at 24 Hour Fitness and soon after started his own training business. Many of his clients are 40+ who experience physical issues and pain, and his greatest reward comes from helping others improve physically and mentally. His journey has led to an ever-increasing knowledge of the human body and how all the body’s systems work in unison, which led him to co-create Stick Mobility in 2015 to help others achieve better movement and health.

What I do, how I do it, why I do it.

My life has always been fueled by sports and human movement. It’s something that I’ve always been passionate about. Sports were always present year round whether it was hockey, baseball, football, basketball, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, or horseback riding. Games of chess, bowling, horse shoes, or billiards were always in my wheelhouse. I have noticed this variety has carried over to my career as a movement coach.

Fitness and movement are like food. We all need it, but not everyone likes to eat the same types or styles of foods. In that mold, there are many tools and systems that all aim at helping people get better either physically, mentally, or both. People gravitate to different forms of training and a good coach should have the ability to blend the right tools and systems for each client. I’ve come to learn over that years that the best training methods are the ones that people buy into because they enjoy it and are passionate about.

The joy that people express when they can play with their kids or grandkids is priceless. The exuberance of clients telling you about how proud they are of accomplishing something they couldn’t have done before will never get old. This is why I look to lead by example and hope to play hockey, rock climb, swim, and hike well into my golden years. Think of the possibilities and never stop living or learning.

Neal Valera Bio

Neal has been coaching strength, mobility, and movement since 2007. A former collegiate golfer, Neal’s love for sports, martial arts, and outdoor activities have contributed to his lifelong interest in various movement disciplines. Having trained a broad range of body types and fitness levels, Neal believes the common denominator for health, longevity, and performance is improving strength and movement quality. Neal has had his own personal training business in San Jose, California since 2009 and co-founded Stick Mobility in 2015.  He is now dedicated to helping people discover their physical potential and improve their ability to move well.

What I do, how I do it, why I do it.

As Co-Founder of StickMobility, my goal is to provide a simple, accessible and scalable training program based on scientific principles using a specially designed stick to improve physical abilities, performance and quality of life.  Through our media channels including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and The Movement Made Better Podcast, we are able to provide content to those seeking solutions for their mobility issues.  There are also multiple levels that this knowledge can be obtained and expanded which can be explored in our StickMobility certification courses.  These workshops are offered live and online.  With these courses, personal trainers, strength coaches, physical therapists and chiropractors can integrate our system principles and methods into their current practice. As StickMobility continues to evolve, I still enjoy working with clients in my personal training practice to help them reach their goals.  I value the relationships and the experience gained working with people who have different abilities and issues.  As a coach, I believe you always need to have skin in the game to stay sharp.

Just as I have witnessed with my own clients, our workshop participants and StickMobility users share similar success stories that include how huge improvements can be made with even the smallest changes.  Individuals begin to pick up on activities that were once hindered by chronic pain.  New strengths and movement abilities are discovered.  Fitness goals are met.  Confidence is boosted.  These stories inspire me to continue to evolve with our training systems and spread our knowledge for continued positive change.
